Santa Fe Depot — Oklahoma City Historic Postcards

From my Oklahoma City postcard collection…

If you’re ever in Oklahoma City and want to check out a fantastic piece of history, head on over to the Santa Fe Train Depot.

This art deco beauty is a sight to behold, and it’s in the perfect spot to explore all that Bricktown has to offer.

Built in the 1930s, this building has stood the test of time and has even been restored for modern-day events. You can also catch a ride on Amtrak’s Heartland Flyer. Trust me; you won’t regret checking out this stunning piece of Oklahoma City history.

As a kid, catching the train to visit my aunt in Houston was thrilling. But what always struck me the most was the Santa Fe Depot.

The place was a hub of activity, filled with people and excitement. It was huge, at least in my child-sized perception of the world.

But as I got older, I watched as the train stopped running and the station sat abandoned. It was a shame, especially when I started imagining what it could have been. In the 80s and 90s, my mind kept returning to the idea of an Oklahoma City Hard Rock Cafe there. The empty station seemed like the perfect spot for a rockin’ restaurant and entertainment venue.

It’s funny how childhood memories stick with you, but I think the Santa Fe Depot will always be a special place in my mind.
