Forbes just released its’ list of America’s Most Stressful Cities. They listed 40 cities. Oklahoma City did not make the list! I did find a Bizjournals 2008 study that shows Oklahoma City at #4 in the ‘Least Stressful Cities in America’.
Sure the job market has something to do with it. The other factors considered were: median home price drop, cost of living, air quality, sunny days per year, and population density.
Let me add commuting which is positively impacted by our wonderful highway system and lack of traffic jams. Road rage is rarely seen here. People transferring to Oklahoma City that I’ve worked with always seem to comment on our lack of traffic.
I can also add the friendly nature of our residents. I’ll never forget working with a couple transferring to Oklahoma City from the west coast a number of years ago. I went to pick them up for a house hunt and about the first thing out of the wife’s mouth was that she had gone to the grocery store the night before and someone said hi to her in the parking lot. She was astounded! I think something as simple as that can turn out to be a great stress reliever.
Now I think I’ll head out to my laid-back real estate job and enjoy a cup of coffee! It’s great to live in Oklahoma City!
