Kaiser’s Ice Cream
If you’re ever in Oklahoma City and find yourself craving a delightful culinary experience, look no further than Kaiser’s Grateful Bean Cafe. Nestled in the heart of the city, this charming eatery is a must-visit destination for both locals and tourists alike.
Kaiser’s History
Kaiser’s Grateful Bean Cafe, also known as “Kaiser’s,” has a rich history dating back to 1917. Swiss entrepreneur Tony Kaiser opened an ice cream parlor at NW 10th and Walker in Oklahoma City. Kaiser’s ice cream gained nationwide popularity for its purity and richness.
The original Kaiser’s closed in 1990. As downtown and Midtown Oklahoma City revitalized, interest in the building grew. The soda fountain, dating back to 1950, adds charm to the restaurant. The original earth-tone ceramic tile on the counter from 1917 has been preserved, along with recreated early 20th-century lighting fixtures and stained glass.
Kaiser’s Grateful Bean Cafe is a reincarnation of the Grateful Bean Cafe, operated at Kaiser’s from 1993 to 2010. The cafe is renowned for its homemade ice cream, served in the traditional Kaiser style. But the delights don’t stop at ice cream. The cafe also features an old-fashioned soda fountain and a menu catering to various palates. From primarily vegetarian food to beef and buffalo burgers, there’s something for everyone at Kaiser’s.
Kaiser’s Today
The retro decor and memorabilia on the walls transport you back in time, adding a touch of nostalgia to your dining experience. The friendly staff and welcoming atmosphere make every visit a pleasure, whether you’re stopping by for a quick lunch or indulging in a leisurely dinner.
But let’s talk about the star of the show – the ice cream. Homemade and served in generous scoops, the ice cream at Kaiser’s is a treat for the senses. Every scoop is a testament to the cafe’s commitment to quality and taste, from classic flavors to unique creations like lavender honey. Pair your ice cream with one of their incredible waffle cones, and you’ve got yourself a dessert that’s hard to beat.
Beyond the food, Kaiser’s Grateful Bean Cafe is a great spot for people-watching. Situated in the bustling St. Anthony District, the cafe offers a front-row seat to the vibrant life of Oklahoma City. Whether you’re a local looking for a new favorite spot or a tourist seeking an authentic Oklahoma City experience, Kaiser’s Grateful Bean Cafe is the place to be.
So, the next time you’re in Midtown, OKC, make sure to pay a visit to Kaiser’s Grateful Bean Cafe. Enjoy a buffalo burger, sip on a soda from the old-fashioned fountain, and don’t forget to save room for a scoop (or two) of their delicious homemade ice cream.
