Putnam Heights is one of Oklahoma City’s established historic residential districts, with development dating to the early 1900s. The district contains approximately 104 reported structures and was designated a local historic preservation area in 1972 before being added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.
The neighborhood is associated with early Oklahoma City developer Israel M. Putnam. Unlike later planned subdivisions, its homes were individually designed and constructed over time, resulting in considerable variation in architecture, size, and design.
Putnam Heights includes a mix of early-20th-century architectural styles, including English Colonial, Spanish Mission, Tudor, and Prairie influences. Homes are primarily two-story, although one-story and other configurations are also present.
