Oklahoma City: A Friendly, Stress-Free Oasis in America

Oklahoma City: A Friendly, Stress-Free Oasis in America

Sometimes it’s good not to make a top “xx” list!

Forbes recently released its list of America’s Most Stressful Cities. So naturally, I was thrilled that Oklahoma City didn’t make the cut! In fact, a Bizjournals study from 2008 ranked Oklahoma City as the fourth least stressful city in America.

What makes Oklahoma City so stress-free?

What makes Oklahoma City so stress-free? Well, it’s not just the job market. The study also considered factors like median home price drop, cost of living, air quality, sunny days per year, and population density.

But let me add another element: commuting. Road rage is a rarity with our excellent highway system and lack of traffic jams. People who move to Oklahoma City always seem to comment on our lack of traffic, which is a significant stress relief.

But it’s not just the lack of traffic that makes Oklahoma City such a pleasant place to live. Our residents are known for their friendly nature, and that’s no exaggeration. I remember working with a couple transferring from the west coast a few years ago. The wife was amazed that someone had said hi to her in the grocery store parking lot the night before. Something as simple as a friendly greeting was a huge stress reliever for her.

Sometimes it’s great to be on a Top 10 list!

As for me, I’m off to enjoy a cup of coffee at my laid-back, real estate job. It’s great to live in a city that values the well-being of its residents and works to make it a stress-free place to call home.
