Adair’s Tropical Cafeteria — Oklahoma City Historical Postcards

From my Oklahoma City Postcard Collection…

In the heart of Oklahoma City, a restaurant once defied the city’s lack of tropical weather. Adair’s Tropical Cafeteria, located just west of Taft Junior High and east of Drexel on NW 23rd, served up good food and a taste of the exotic throughout the 1950s and 1960s.

Though Oklahoma may not have been the most obvious location for a tropical-themed eatery, Adair’s stood out as one of the city’s many independent cafeterias, such as the Lady Classen and The Boulevard. It may have been the only location for Adair’s, but it left a lasting impression on those who dined there.

Today, the building that once housed Adair’s is home to the 23rd Street Antique Mall, still standing as a reminder of the city’s vibrant past.
